Anita Fonesca works as a caretaker at Outreach Initiative, a job she started over two years ago. While she enjoys the work, Anita doesn’t earn enough to care of her children, plus have enough money to live independently. Anita and her children – Rafael (11) and Socorro (8) – currently live in a 1-bedroom house behind her parent’s home. The whole property is crowded since seven people live there. Anita, Rafael, and Socorro haven’t had to move often, but only because rent is so high and they can’t afford living on their own. Anita would like the sponsors and volunteers who are helping build her home to know that she is a single mother who is a caring and appreciative person. She says, “Thank you for all of the work that you do. Thank you for providing resources and opportunities for me and my family. I also want to thank you for the opportunity to even stay in my hometown of Austin as it is very difficult.”
Tasks: This will depend on the specific build schedule, but generally you can expect to work on carpentry, painting, landscaping and more!
